>If you prayed the prayer above and meant it, get hold of a Bible read and

>eternal life and heaven.

I distance myself from a position that salvation is obtained through
the reciting of a prayer. I don't see precedence in the book of Acts
for such a practice.

Assurance of salvation is important. It is not the same as salvation.
In other words, sometimes believers need assurnace. Hence John wrote,
"These things write I unto you that believe that you may know that you
have eternal life."

My assurance has nothing to do with how I live my life. I do not live
my life according to His word....I fall short of that daily, hourly,
etc. My assurance comes from the application of John 3:18, in which it
is taught that there are two groups of people with two destinies. One
is destined to heaven and one is destined to condemnation. The sole
differientiator is belief. I believe, which puts me in the group that
believes.

My ancestors swung by their necks, not their tails.

Not true. That would be true only if you really do not know how to use it. Why,
you didn't even _do_ a google search on 5:45-48, did you? Could you even be
bothered to read the _passage_, Bob?

Quite simply, really. If you had bothered to do the Google search, if you had
bothered to read the passage, this should have been clear to you. Let's look at
the passage together: I'll even add one more verse to make it even more clear!

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so
that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise
on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For
if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax
collectors do the same? And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you
doing
