I would like to present a different thought pertaining to fasting. I
understand that I am entering a large debate, with minister's on either
side of the fence of this issue. But because we all agree that it has
nothing to do with salvation and how it is attained, it's safe for us
to have our personal beliefs concerning what God has said about
fasting....

Isaiah 58
The people were crying to the Lord because they had fasted but God had
not hear their cry. He answered them and pretty much said, 'you have
not offered your whole heart, and have fasted as mechanical means of
getting God to listen to you. Your attiude is all wrong.
But then He goes own..and it's gets very interesting.

58:6
Is not this the fast that I have chosen:
to loose the bonds of wickedness,
to undo the bands of the yokes,
to let the oppressed go free and
you break every enslaving yoke.
Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry
and bring the homeless poor into your house-
when you see the naked, that you cover him,
and that you hide not yourself needs of your own flesh and blood.

So I was looking at that..

What does sin do but entangle us, bind us. The bands of yokes reminds
me of Jesus'rebuke of the Pharisee lawyers because they "burdened the
people with burdens too heavy to carry while they themselves didn't
even touch them with one finger."
"Let the oppressed go free and break enslaving yoke" sounds an awful
lot like "forgive and you will be forgiven"

Divide your bread with the hungry sounds a lot like Jesus reminding us
about a cold cup of water given out.

'Bring the homeless poor into your house'
'Cover the naked' Love covers a multiude of sins.

My favorite: "hide not yourself needs of your own flesh and blood" God
is saying I will hear you, when you take care of business at home! Your
spouse is of "one flesh" with you and and the blood your children.
Jesus said we needed to abide in His love. He said, You will abide in
My love if you keep my commmandments. Just like I have kept My Father's
commandments and abided in His love, Here is My commandment, That you
Love one another. No greater love than this, that a man lay down his
life for his friends.

I submit that it is _not_ abstaining from food for whatever many days
may be considered appropriate.
It is _not_ how long you pray or the accompanment of prayer and
fasting.
Those that want to hear from God? Walk in the God kind of love towards
everyone saved and unsaved. Help the poor, be kind and full of mercy.
Put away fingers pointing at everyone else.
then God promise's is that, You will call and I WILL ANSWER.
