Dear Bob:

I have always thought the the point of Matt. 7:21ff. was that those
who are turned away, were basing their acceptance with God, upon their
works, as do the JW's.

In this passage we have, a direct rebuttal of what you have been
trying to prove. These people are not only calling Jesus "LORD,"
but there is no indication that they do not recognize Him as God.

The point of the "judgment" in my understanding is that those who
try to base their salvation, or acceptance with God on their works,
has not yet "agreed with God," concerning His assessment of their
condition.

All who reject Christ do this. They all deny that they are worthy
only of death, and can be saved only by God's mercy which He has
provided through His son.

The JW's are a very good example of an entire religion which thinks
that by doing works they can be saved.

But, to through some argument to your side, I think that there
are many who are truly born again who nevertheless, while starting
by belief of the true and only Gospel, (and there by are saved)
have departed therefrom, and are as described in the letter of
Paul to the Galatians.

Sincerely, Gary
