I'm pretty sure that is impossible. We are all masses of
untested (and unrealized) assumptions. No one can read
Scripture without couching it into his own world view.

Not really. The first 7 or so chapters are letters to the
churches. Some of it recounts past history. I think if one
reads Revelation as "future history", then he has missed
the forest for the trees. The main message is "Even though
there are many trials, God's people will triumph." Too many
people take this word from God as scary, when it should be
read (foremost) as comfort.
