Localities
I thought that some might be interested in this quote from
Thomas concerning Sola Scriptura.
"We believe the prophets and apostles because the Lord has been their
witness by performing miracles.... And we believe the successors of the
apostles and the prophets ONLY IN SO FAR AS THEY TELL US THOSE THINGS WHICH
THE APOSTLES AND PROPHETS HAVE LEFT IN THEIR WRITINGS." (OT, XIV, 10, ad 11
emphasis added.)
Thus it would seem that Thomas would use Scripture to test the
writings of the "Fathers" to see whether they were true.
It seems obvious to me, from the game that we used to play, where one
would "whisper a secret" to another around a room. And when the secret
was stated by the last, it did not resemble the original very well.
To have any certainty, we need things written down, at least I do.

If an evil person does not rape your child, is that good?

Yes, it does. It says they would have repented. This is made even more clear in
the parallel passage in Matthew, where He says:
for if the mighty works, which were done in you,
had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have
repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. (Mt 11:21 KJV)

Both Bob and Gary are doing this. And you are doing it too, when you interfere
with your groundless and
