The problem is that the argument that the free-willer's make to try to
make the Calvinist God a demon is the same argument that shows that the
free-willer's God is also demonic. So either the argument is wrong, or
God is a demon, regardless of which starting assumption is used.

What translation are you citing here? This verse is actually a good example of
why one should always include the abbreviation for which translation you are
using (unless you have really good extenuating circumstances). For there is a
famous textual issue here: many 'modern' translations read more like:

There is therefore now no condemnation for those
who are in Christ Jesus. (Rom 8:1 RSVA)

You can imagine what a change the absence or presence of "who walk not after the
flesh" will make on the interpretation of the entire chapter!
