Catch-22. How can you get wisdom and insight other than from
the Bible, which you can't read properly unless you already
have wisdom and insight?

He's not that innocent. He's putting down "all these outside
sources" as if they are worthless. But what does he offer
in their stead? His own, much less developed and much less
scholarly and much less respected "wisdom and insight."

If you put a man in a room alone with the Bible and a
candle, the only thing that can come out of the room
is a heretic.

The brazen audacity of these words is itself the best argument against
them! How could you even _think_ of accusing the authors of Scripture
of such forgery?

No one labored so gloriously in the vineyard of the Lord as Paul
did. Yet you overlook and despise all that and brand its record
'forgery' instead! You could hardly give us a better proof, Mike, that
you are wholly alien to Christianity.

But how can you believe it is so close to pure, that it was better than any of
the Greek manuscripts? The difference between this claim and "the Vulgate was
pure" is too small for this to be a good defence for you.

[snip]

>I never claimed the Vulgate would be superior today, only that it was

And that claim too, is false. For it _already_ had the Byzantine mixture that
you criticize so harshly in the Greek manuscripts.
