How do you KNOW A. There are many who believe that
Christ died on the cross, who don't believe it has
a thing to do with them.
Further, A. implies.
Because I believe that Jesus died on the Cross for me
and thereby saved me by suffering for my sins.
B. Is false as it stands.
B must be restated thusly:
I believe that Christ died on the cross for me and thereby
took away my sins and saved me because God said so.

Don't agree with the alternatives you present.
A. Because Jesus died on the cross for me.
Means just exactly what? It can mean many things.
There is not enough content in the statement.
The way we know we are saved is because Christ died on the cross for us
and paid the penalty for our sins, and thereby saved us by God's Grace.

Faith comes by "hearing the word of God."
We believe God because He is believable.
But further, what of the 1st commandment.
How does keeping it proffer everlasting life?
The reason for our confidence is in what God has
revealed to us and in us. By His Spirit He has
shown us that we are undone sinners. By His Spirit,
(via the word again as in #1), He has told us how to
obtain righteousness. And 3) He has by His word
told us the end of our selves without Him.
The GOSPEL is the POWER of God unto Salvation,
to whom? All who believe.
