Well spoken Jacob. One either accepts the Bible as God's word,
or one does not. If one accepts it then he accepts that "his heart is
deceitful." Hence he knows that following his heart is not the way to
go.

Psalms 119:105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my
path.
Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to
this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Psalms 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he
meditate day and night.

John 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine,
whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Interestingly, Job didn't have such a high opinion of himself: "If I
justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am
perfect, it shall also prove me perverse." (Job 9: 21) However, I dare
not gainsay the Lord in this matter.

Noah also was also "a just man and perfect in his generations" (Gen.
6:9), and David's heart was supposedly perfect (1 Kgs. 11: 4, 1 Kgs.
15: 3), "Asa's heart was perfect with the LORD all his days." (1
Kgs. 15: 14, 2 Chr. 15: 17), Hezekiah pleaded the same to the Lord (2
Kgs. 20: 3, Isa. 38: 3).

However, in teaching our need for Christ's atonement, Paul taught that
all have sinned. (Rom. 3:10, 23; 5:12). He taught that the faith of
all the saints through all the ages was centered on Christ, but that ".
. . these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received
not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that
they without us should not be made perfect." (Heb. 11:39-40). Note
