No, that is not what he said. Again: tell me which passage you are
misinterpreting and I will explain
o you how you _should_ have read it!

For Erasmus really did never say anything like this. The closest he got was to
say that even if Luther's doctrine _was_ true, it should not be broadcast so
loudly, because of the obvious detriment to moral effort. But he NEVER claimed
that the Church should teach anything that is not true, and CERTAINLY NOT "to
keep the ignorant masses in line".

You, Bart, are attributing a supercilious arrogance to Erasmus that he never
had. Perhaps you are projecting -- again!
